Camping

Over the years, The 25th Nepean Group has used many of the local Ontario campgrounds available, and we have listed here the ones we use most frequently. We have began to provide school bus transportation from St.Benedict School to assist in the driving distances.

Camp Sites

Scout Camps

Camp Opemikon

530 Hanna Rd, Maberly, ON K0H 2B0

Scouts Canada owned camp at Christie Lake near Perth.  For over 100 years this has been the primary Scouts Canada camp in our region.  Cabins, tents, lots of hiking and adventure potential, this is a great camp.

Apple Hill

18739 Kenyon Concession Road 2, Apple Hill, ON K0C 1B0

A Scouts Canada camp located South Southeast of Maxville, ON and accessible from Ottawa in just over an hour’s drive. With cabins, several large, open fields, an archery range and a pelletry range, rope bridge and much more.  This camp does not have a lake or river access.

Otter Lake - QC

19 Chem. Scout, Otter Lake, QC J0X 2P0

Another Scouts Canada owned camp on Hughes Lake (yes, the name is confusing – it is near the town of Otter Lake, but the camp is actually on Hughes Lake). It is located about 45 minutes North of Shawville, QC. A smaller camp, but a favourite with the Cubs due to great games of manhunt.

Otter Lake - ON

A camp hugging northeast bay of Otter Lake, adjacent to Frontenac Park and on the Rideau Trail. There is a dining hall (no heat) with two kitchens, vault toilets, activity field and three main wilderness campsites. Access to Frontenac Park by hiking trails or by water through Doe Lake.

Awacamenj Mino - QC

143 Chem. Mcnicoll, Wakefield, QC J0X 3G0

This camp is run by Scouting Quebec and is just 45 minutes North of Ottawa. It is a beautiful camp with cabins and tenting sites. The name is an Algonquin Indian name that means “better than the best”.

Provincial Parks

Foley Mountain

105 Foley Mountain Lane, Westport ON K0G 1X0

Operated by the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority, Foley Mountain is just outside the town of Westport and offers great hikes, base and top of trail camps, and nice views.

Fitzroy Provincial Park

5201 Canon Smith Dr, Fitzroy Harbour, ON K0A 1X0

A large, beautiful provincial park on the Ottawa river covered in white pine, 200-year old burl Oak, and trails through shale terraces with a nice waterfall to play around (and in). Several large group sites are perfect for the Scouting movement.  A nice beach is available for swim time as well.

Wesley Clover Park

411 Corkstown Rd, Ottawa, ON K2K 0J5

While close to the Queensway, the campground has many powered campsites, washroom facilities, a group camping area in the trees, and is connected by pathways to the NCC Capital bikeway.

Lac Philippe - QC

Prom. du Lac-Philippe, Sainte-Cécile-de-Masham, QC J0X 2G0

Inside the Gatineau Park, the group campsites are located closer to Taylor Lake just after the main gate (the booth where a gate rises to let you in) to the park. With two beaches and a system of caves along with enormous hiking potential.

Gracefield - QC

37 Chem. des Loisirs, Gracefield, QC J0X 1W0

The Gracefield Camp and Conference Centre is run by the Presbyterian Church of Canada, and is located outside Gracefield, QC.  This is a beautiful site with cabins, plentiful tenting, a cool fort in the forest, and great swimming and boating facilities.
